Award Winning Web Series Dark Lord.png

Dear Dark Lord had its festival premiere on Friday November 9th, 2018 at the Chicago International REEL Shorts Film Festival. We were honored to be part of programming that included amazing shorts, ranging from heartfelt comedies to high-concept sci-fi films.

Dear Dark Lord won an Audience Award for the Friday night slot of programming. We couldn’t have done this without all our fans. Thank you for taking time away from re-arranging your bone piles to worship our Dark Lord.

We Accidentally Sent Critics a Picture of a Horse, and They Reviewed It

The Picture of a Horse critics received instead of our web series screener.

The Picture of a Horse critics received instead of our web series screener.

Due to an internal labelling error, the Dear Dark Lord team sent a Picture of a Horse to critics instead of screener of our new web series. By the time we realized our mistake, top critics had already begun posting their reviews.

We drafted an email explaining the mixup, but to our surprise, the Picture of the Horse had earned such stellar reviews that our series was certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Because of this Picture of a Horse, Dear Dark Lord is now considered one of the best web series of all time.

While we would have liked reviews of our new web series, we can't turn down good press. Here are some of the excerpts from critics' reviews of Dear Dark Lord (The Picture of a Horse Edit).

Majesty doesn’t even begin to describe the work this independent team of filmmakers has created. Dear Dark Lord renders pure awe with such grace as to take the breath away.
— Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
There’s pictures of horses, and then there’s this Picture of a Horse — movingly titled Dear Dark Lord. Evoking beauty and horror in equal measures, viewers will be transfixed by this new series.
— Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post
The confrontational Dear Dark Lord, which is a stunning Picture of a Horse, forces viewers to confront their dark impulses. What they find may disturb them, or it may not. Either way, they’ll find themselves irrevocably changed.
— David Ehrlich, IndieWire
Although it does heavily feature a horse, it is not just for horse fans. Dear Dark Lord has a universal appeal few series — much less feature films — ever attain.
— Brian Tallerico,
Sister Maria forgive me; I am in love with Dear Dark Lord. Watch this web series immediately.
— Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

'Hello from the Magic Tavern' Shouts Out 'Dear Dark Lord'

Hello From The Magic Tavern Illustration.jpg

Hello from the Magic Tavern gave Dear Dark Lord a shout out on their 11/06/17 episode, titled "Pulcifer the Unassuming." Listen to the entire episode below. The web series shout out (i.e. the part where I smiled like a dumb child and then numerous victory fist pumps) comes at minute 20.

Thanks, Arnie, for reading out my entire email and playing along with my dumb jokes. For real, it was very sweet. And it was great to get a moment of recognition from a Chicago-grown podcast phenomenon.

If you aren't listening to Hello from the Magic Tavern, you should be. And if you haven't watched our teaser yet, may the Dark Lord consume your soul.
